On Wednesday, May 6, 2026 - for one unforgettable night - the artists of Pacific Repertory Theatre will transform the historic Golden Bough Playhouse into a glamorous 1920s speakeasy for one unforgettable evening as it presents Prohibition at the Playhouse, a Great Gatsby-inspired Speakeasy Soirée benefiting the theatre's productions and youth education programs.
The event will honor long time board member Jackie Craghead, who passed away in late 2025.
Guests will step into a world of Jazz Age elegance as the newly renovated Golden Bough Playhouse comes alive with vintage cocktails, live entertainment, and immersive theatrical surprises. The event will activate multiple spaces throughout the venue, including the Barnet Segal Lobby, the Robert and Virginia Stanton Lobby — transformed into a password-entry “speakeasy” — and the Founders Theatre for the evening’s live auction and program.
The celebration begins at 6:00 PM with a cocktail-style soirée featuring a curated supper buffet, signature prohibition-era cocktails, and live music. The evening program follows in the Founders Theatre and will include a dynamic live auction, a “Speakeasy Split” 50/50 drawing, and a Fund-a-Need appeal supporting youth theatre and artistic programming.
A special performance by students from PacRep’s School of Dramatic Arts will precede the underwriting appeal, underscoring the organization’s commitment to arts education and the next generation of performers.
"Prohibition at the Playhouse is designed to feel as theatrical and immersive as our productions," said Executive Director Stephen Moorer. “It’s an opportunity for our community to gather, celebrate, and directly support live theatre in Carmel – and have a fabulous time doing it!”
The event aims to raise more than $75,000 in net proceeds to sustain Pacific Repertory Theatre’s mainstage productions, artistic personnel, and educational outreach programs.
Attire: Black tie or cocktail attire is perfect, with Jazz Age flair encouraged. Flappers, Gangsters, Socialites and Starlets welcome! Special prize for the most Gatsby-inspired ensemble!
