2008 ANNUAL SUMMER

FAMILY MUSICAL

     In August, after a four-year absence, PacRep is off to see the wizard in The Wizard of Oz at the outdoor Forest Theater for its annual family musical by L. Frank Baum, based on the classic MGM movie musical with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. One of the greatest and best loved family musicals, featuring a host of song favorites including “We’re Off to See the Wizard”, “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”, “If I Only Had a Brain”, and the immortal signature song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, coupled with flying effects by ZFX of Las Vegas, PacRep’s production will be an event to remember.

     PacRep’s Wizard has two discount previews, Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m., opening Saturday August 23 at 7:30 p.m., and continuing Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. with an additional performance on Thursdays, August 28, and September 25 at 7:30p.m, and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m., weekends through September 21.  In addition, Sunday Family Matinees are scheduled on August 31 at 2:00p.m., and September 7, 14 and 21 with a final performance on September 28 at 2:00p.m.  All performances are at the Outdoor Forest Theater, located at the corner of Mountain View and Santa Rita Street, in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

2008 CARMEL

SHAKE-SPEARE FESTIVAL

     Continuing a 97-year tradition of Shake-speare at the outdoor Forest Theater, PacRep presents in repertory with Troilus and Cressida, starting on October 3, Shake-speare’s The Comedy of Errors, a zany mix of mad confusions with two sets of identical twins (master and servant) who are separated by a ship wreck in early childhood and unwittingly cross paths as adults.  

     Kenneth Keller, Guest Artistic Director of PacRep Theatre will direct the production, which follows the whirlpool of confusion and series of chance encounters that lead to mistaken identities at every turn, compounded by a pair of spirited sisters who discover that love at first sight isn’t easy when two men look exactly the same! This hilarious play is a riot of high spirits and fun!

     The Comedy of Errors begins with one discount preview, Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m., opens Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m., and continues Fridays through Sundays through October 19 at 7:30 p.m., with an additional performance on Thursday, October 16. All performances are at the Golden Bough Theatre, located at the corner of Monte Verde between 8th and 9th Streets, in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
