BIG SHOWS - little theatre

PacRep’s 2008 Season starts March February 29 with the regional premiere of John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt, winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Play, and Pulitzer Prize winner for drama. When the play opened on Broadway, it was hailed as a monumental achievement by critics everywhere.

Set in a 1964 Catholic school, Doubt is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with the difficult decision of whether to voice her concerns about the actions of her new male colleague without being entirely certain of the truth. Get a glimpse of church politics, and the electrifying mystery about faith at the Circle Theatre.

In repertory with Buddy is the Regional Premiere of the outrageous side-splitting comedy about Texas’ third smallest town, Greater Tuna, beginning June 3 in the Circle Theatre. Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, Greater Tuna – where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies -is a tour-de-farce performance by the two member cast that will have you rolling in the aisles, as they portray all the citizens of Tuna - 20 of the looniest characters ever to come out of the Lone Star State! Greater Tuna is a knee-slapping evening of down home fun!

In September, PacRep’s annual Carmel Shake-speare Festival takes opens with one of Shake-speare’s rarely staged dramas, Troilus and Cressida, beginning September 5 in the intimate Circle Theatre.

Kenneth Kelleher (Beard of Avon, Othello, Timon of Athens), who also serves as guest Artistic Director of PacRep this season, returns to direct this darkly insightful, and timely tale of war.

Based on the famous Trojan War, Shake-speare presents the most extraordinary array of characters, offer insights into the human egos taking priority over the public good, bringing to light the sullied realities of war.
